On Saturday, 9/16/00 a dinner run was made to Harry
Caray's restaurant
in downtown Chicago by a merry group of 24 AGWA-G,
H & "friends of
AGWA". What made this run unique was that it was not
made on our bikes,
but by a "private" Metra railcar and a Wendella boat
on Lake Michigan!
Thanks to the efforts of Chapter H's Sue Durham and
her Metra conductor
friend Joe Pinion, the group enjoyed a private railcar
from the Winfield
train station to downtown Chicago. After arriving
in Chicago, the
group boarded a water taxi on the Chicago River to
the Wrigley Building,
where they boarded a Wendella boat for a cruise on
Lake Michigan.
After the cruise, everyone enjoyed a great dinner at
Harry Caray's
restaurant.
Thanks to Sue & Joe, the whole event went like
clockwork....almost.
After dinner, the members hailed taxi cabs to Northwestern
train station
to catch the 8:40PM train.....all except our Chapter
Rep (who shall
remain nameLES). The Chapter Rep & his family
members got in a taxi &
told the driver "UNION STATION & STEP ON IT!!!).
Needless to say, the Chapter Rep & his family members
just barely made
it back to Northwestern Station in time to catch the
train. (I thought
I would have to actually use the CPR training I took!!).
Thaks again to Sue Durham & Joe Pinion for making
this run a success!
Ride Safe!
