The 2001 edition of the annual AGWA Illinois Icebreaker
party was held
on Saturday, Feb. 24th at the Ramada Inn in Elgin,
IL. This get
together is well into its third decade of existence
and was arguably,
the best one so far.
The theme of this year's event was "The Roaring 20s",
and was attended
by over 80 members and friends of AGWA Illinois.
The event was
organized by Illinois State Director Russ Densmore
and his lovely wife,
Wanda. This is the fifth year that they have
put together this event!
After checking their violin cases at the door, the
attendees enjoyed
their favorite beverages from the local "speakeasy",
followed by a great
buffet style "soup line", uhh... I mean dinner.
After dinner, music & a
great light show were provided by DJs Bob & Tammy
from Boston
Productions.
One of the events of the evening that is hard to describe,
but was VERY
interesting to watch was the "Walla Balla" contest,
ultimately won by
Kitty Levin.
The traditional 50/50 was held and due to the generosity
of all that
attended, it was decided to split it between two winners.
The lucky
winners were Bob Priester and MariAnne Densmore.
A great selection of
prizes were awarded, with the grand prize being a
home theater
"surround" sound system won by Lloyd Tatman.
After a long nite of
revelry, some members spent the night at the Ramada
& met for breakfast
on Sunday morning.
To all who attended, this event definitely signified
that Winter's back
has been broken and we will soon be back on two wheels
where we belong!
Russ and Wanda would like to thank Roz Lange for taking
care of the
financial end of things, Les Chapman for providing
the table
centerpieces as well as most of the period pictures
used for decorations
and Helen Priester for most of everything else.
Also on the "attaboy
list" for supplying the prizes given away are Des
Plaines Honda, Roz
Lange, Helen Priester, Burt Wagner, John Oldenburg,
Les Chapman and last
but certainly not least, Wanda Densmore (she provided
the grand prize).
If we missed anyone, were sincerely apologize.
Finally, all the folks that put this event together
would like to thank
all those who attended, and hope to see you all next
year!
Ride Safe!
