On Sunday, Feb. 11, 2001, an untold number of AGWA-IL
members
(estimated in the thousands) awoke from their deep
freeze long
enough to get together, eat breakfast and attempt
a takeover of the 2001
Bike Show held at the Donald E. Stevens convention
center in Rosemont,
IL.
For many AGWA members, Sunday was their second or third
day at the show,
as many had volunteered to staff the Ride For Kids
booth to help "spread
the word", as well as help sell raffle tickets for
a restored 1975
Norton that Cycle World has kindly donated to help
raise funds for the
RFK..
The highlight of the show for most was the Honda display
featuring the
2001 GL1800 and the 2002 VTX 1800 twin. That
VTX has an exhaust pipe so
large that it looks like it came off the main gun
turret of a
battleship! Also on display was a fully decked
out GL1800 that had a
price tag of $27,000! The only option missing
on the Wing was a liquid
cooled credit card cooler!
The show was a great tonic for the winter doldrums
& most everyone left
believing that someday, the snow will melt and we
will be riding once
again!
Ride Safe!
